Membership of Melbourne Bushwalkers
Visitors (Temporary Members) are welcome to participate in Melbourne Bushwalkers activities. Participation as a visitor (Temporary Member) is a normal part of the procedure for becoming a member of the club.
How To Join
Joining Melbourne Bushwalkers is a straight forward process that comes down to four clear steps:
- Visit the clubroom for a brief chat and introduction by a member on duty;
- Do up to three walks from the club's activities program;
- On the last walk take along a membership application form and ask two members to nominate you; and
- Send the form along with your membership fee to the Membership Secretary.
If you would like to obtain more information about how to join you can obtain a copy of the Application Form and accompanying introductory notes. The following links will enable you to download the relevant documents.
Qualifying for Membership
In order to qualify for membership, you must complete within 12 months either:
- Three one-day walks;
- One weekend plus one one-day walk;
- Two weekend walks; or
- another combination of activities approved by the Committee.
This is not as difficult as it may seem, and does give you are good chance to decide whether our Club suits you.
You must also be proposed and seconded by two members who were on your qualifying walks (usually, but not necessarily, the leaders of these walks). Walks, other than those designated as Social Walks, are qualifying walks unless otherwise indicated.
Getting Further Information
The best way to get further information and learn about the club is to visit the clubroom any Wednesday night between 7:00-9:00 pm.
Additional information can also be found elsewhere on this site. In particular, the Frequently Asked Questions page provides some of the essential information you will probably want to know:
- How do I join the club?
- How much does it cost?
- How do I get on a walk?
- What do I need for my first walk?
- Where are the club rooms?
- How do I contact Melbourne Bushwalkers?
The Tips for New Bushwalkers page gives some helpful guidance to those who are new to the activity before going on their first walk.
