16 Jun 2013: George Bass Coastal Trail
Photos:
Ian Mair, Deb Shand
In 1797 George Bass set sail from Sydney...
Recent rains had made conditions soggy...
The river level was up and at times we had...
There was little breeze which was ideal for...
At the river mouth it was a gentle climb...
The mouth of the Powlett River looked too...
And proceeded in an orderly manner
Low tide meant we had firm sand underfoot...
The buildings around Kilcunda beckoned from...
Leaving the beach we climbed up to the Nyora...
It was a steady climb up the soft sand.
The site of the old railway bridge told us...
It was just a short distance along the Rail...
Starting out on the George Bass Coastal...
From the cliff tops the views back to...
Off in the distance ahead of us the cliffs...
A gentle swell rolled across the exposed...
The track wound its way around the cliff...
The track rose and fell over the sweeping...
Creeks cut their way through the imposing...
Fortunately the flow was only a trickle.
From the higher points our path was laid out...
One last hill and we were at the bus pick-up...
