How to Join

To become a member you are generally required to:

  1. Visit the clubroom for a brief introduction by a member on duty. There is a club meeting every Wednesday, 6:30 - 8:30pm, at The Mission for Seafarers Victoria (717 Flinders Street, Docklands);
  2. Complete up to three walks from the club's activities program (see alternatives below);
  3. On the last walk take along a membership application form and ask two members to nominate you; and
  4. Forward the application form plus the membership fee to the Membership Secretary. You can either bring it to a club meeting, email a copy to membership@mbw.org.au or post it to Melbourne Bushwalkers, GPO Box 1751, Melbourne 3001.

During the qualifying period you will be a Temporary Member of the club for insurance purposes. This includes walkers who are registered on the clubs MeetUp site and seek to become a full club member.

Alternative ways to Qualify for Membership

In order to qualify for membership, you must complete within 12 months either:

  • Three one-day walks;
  • One weekend plus one one-day walk;
  • Two weekend walks; or
  • another combination of activities approved by the Committee.

This is not as difficult as it may seem, and does give you are good chance to decide whether our Club suits you.

You must also be proposed and seconded by two members who were on your qualifying walks (usually, but not necessarily, the leaders of these walks). Walks, other than those designated as Social Walks, are qualifying walks unless otherwise indicated.

Participating as a Visitor

Visitors to Melbourne are welcome to do up to three walks with the club. To join a walk as a visitor you must:

  1. Visit the clubroom for a brief introduction by a member on duty;
  2. Talk to the leader of the walk that you are interested in before booking onto it; or
  3. You can participate on Sunday Bus and Sunday carpool trips without the need to visit the clubrooms provided an experienced member who will also be on the walk with you vouches for your fitness and suitability, and makes a booking on your behalf.

Please read the club's introductory document before coming to your first meeting. The link below will enable you to download the introductory document.
